New Events for 2016:

We're excited to announce Sip & Play - Carlton Hill Croquet Days for 2016.

For the first time, we're going to be open for lunch, wine tasting, and a game of croquet on our picturesque croquet lawn. Up to 5 people can play croquet at a time, and we can do one or two courts, so the most we can accommodate is 10 people each day. This is a fun, relaxing, personal afternoon with croquet instruction and wine education from the wine maker himself. Ticket prices include:

  • Boxed lunch from The Horse Radish (we'll have you pick your sandwich from their menu and we'll have it ready for you at the vineyard)
  • A vertical tasting of our Pinot Noir
  • A glass of our Pinot Noir
  • A game of croquet

Tickets are $50 per person, or $160 for a group of 4. Call or email us to reserve.

The dates are:

News from April 2015

The Wine Advocate has published its recent reviews of Oregon wines. We're pretty happy with what reviewer Neal Martin had to say about the Carlton Hill wines he tasted--

2013 Carlton Hill Estate - 90 points
"The 2013 Pinot Noir has a clean, light and fresh red berry nose with subtle sous-bois scents developing in the glass. The palate is fresh on the entry with supple, fleshy tannin, plenty of red berry fruit and a sense of reserve on the finish that suits it well. This is thoughtfully crafted." Drink dates: 2015-2020

2012 Carlton Hill Estate Reserve - 91 points
"The 2012 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve sees 50% new oak for 16 months. It has a luscious bouquet with red cherries, crushed strawberry and a hint of vanilla emanating from the oak. The palate is fleshy and smooth in the mouth, not a hair out of place here with sensual raspberry coulis, strawberry and dark chocolate notes on the finish. Excellent." Drink dates: 2015-2022

November news: The 2014 vintage should be an exciting one! What a long, glorious growing season it was. Little disease pressure, no bird threats, and a remarkably early harvest in mid-September. From May through September, the sun rarely let up, so this year's wines should be quite fruit-forward.

September 28, 2013 — It's harvest time! Unfortunately, there's also an unexpected typhoon! Who saw that coming? Not the meteorologist who advises the Willamette Valley wine growers. Read the story in the McMinnville News-Register about how our 2013 harvest was suddenly pushed up, along with everyone else's in the area, when a sudden change of forecast was announced Thursday, September 26 that resulted in a mad scramble to harvest on the morning of September 27. The story features photos of our Carlton Hill Vineyard harvest.

September 25, 2013 — We're finally on the Higgins list! A phone call today from Andy at Higgins Restaurant in downtown Portland made David's day. Higgins is a reliable Portland favorite, with a romantic, northwestern elegance. It was to Higgins that David invited Tara on their first dinner date. In candle light at a lovely corner window table, Tara and David met, only Tara had a headache that evening. David, eager to impress, ran to his car to get some ibuprofen for her. After discovering he didn't have any, he ran several blocks to Safeway to buy some. Meanwhile, Tara, alone at her table is thinking "this isn't such a hot first date." But when David returns with medicine and Tara sees what he was willing to do to help her feel better, her heart is warmed. Two years later, we're married, and it all started at Higgins! We're delighted that you can now have Carlton Hill Pinot noir there. Try it paired with Higgins' duck confit, rigatoni, or "whole pig plate" stew. We hope you create happy memories of your own there.

Carlton Hill Estate Pinot Noirs won two Double Gold awards at the 2012 Oregon Wine Awards! The winning submissions were the 2010 Estate and the 2009 Estate Reserve. Both of these wines will be availble for sale at our upcoming wine tasting event on May 26, 2013.
